Licensed Educational Psychologists (LEPs) are licensed professionals who can diagnose and provide detailed information on student's patterns of strengths and weaknesses. LEPs serve as a personal coach who can evaluate, diagnose, provide strategies, accommodations, and counseling (when needed). LEPs typically have experience working in schools and are experts in assessing learning disabilities.
Have you ever wondered what is holding your student (or adult student) back in school? Perhaps your student has continuously struggled in one or multiple academic areas and their struggles went unnoticed by teachers year after year. Have you been told their learning gap is not significant enough to require an evaluation? Are they demonstrating challenging behaviors which are affecting their learning? With IEC's psycho-educational assessments, parents (and adult students) are provided with detailed information and recommendations to help them across all environmental settings. IEC will serve as an advocate for your student.
In the school system, parents have the right to request a psycho-educational evaluation of their student at no cost to them. THIS IS YOUR RIGHT as a parent or adult student. However, navigating the school system can be difficult for parents who want answers to their student's learning difficulties in a timely manner. Since LEPs are not mandated by the state to follow a legal, 60-day timeline, IEC makes you their priority and as a result, evaluations can be done is less time. You might have many questions about your student's academic progress or lack there of. IEC assessments are a great way to start getting answers to your questions!
Academic concerns can range from learning how to read, comprehension and/or writing difficulties to understanding math concepts. Maybe your student struggles socially at school and has difficulty making or keeping friends. Having your student assessed by a Licensed Educational Psychologist is sometimes the best option. Unfortunately, the school psychologist-to-student ratio in our schools make it difficult to have your student evaluated in a timely manner. IEC services can help you find the answers you need, privately and efficiently.
If you are a parents of a home-schooled, private or charter school student requesting an evaluation, getting an evaluation can be even more challenging and time consuming. The school must first decide if there is a need for an evaluation. For example, if a student is performing at grade level and is considered to be doing "well enough," they can fall under the radar and progressively decline in their academics as the curriculum becomes more challenging. Ultimately, this can lead to feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem, which can manifest in emotionally charged and negative feelings about school. Many times these students are not recommended for evaluations. IEC can help! We offer multiple types of assessments to determine what is holding your student back.
Maybe your student struggles are not academic but more social-emotional, inattentive/hyperactive (ADHD), Autistic-like, Anxiety or Depression based, IEC teaches students how to better understand their struggles and teach strategies to help self-regulate their attention, emotions, or reactions to situations in order not to interfere with their learning.
