Assessments include a combination of play-based and standardized batteries. Evaluation will focus on Developmental Stages, Pre-academics, Self-help skills, Adaptive Functioning, Sensory-Motor skills, Social-Emotional skills, and Autism assessments. Observations during instruction and play outside the testing environment are included. Parents and teachers receive rating scales to gather all input from adults who work closely with the child. Evaluation results provide important information on the child's development and their future learning ability.
Evaluations at the elementary level include multiple standardized assessments, such as processing assessments in the areas of Cognitive (with an IQ score), Auditory, Phonological, Visual, Attention/Concentration (ADHD), Memory, Sensory-Motor skills, Adaptive Functioning, and Social-Emotional development, as well as Autism assessments (when needed). These comprehensive assessments are thorough and concise. All evaluations include a review of records, interviews, classroom and playground observations in order to capture an accurate picture of the student across multiple settings. Rating scales for parents, teachers, and others who work closely with your child are also included. Depending on evaluation results, recommendations for a Section 504 or IEP are provided.
For the older student with a history of academic or social-emotional difficulties, evaluations will assess all areas of reported concerns as well as higher education interests. These areas include Cognitive (with an IQ score), Academics, Auditory Processing, Phonological Processing, Visual Processing, Attention/Concentration Processing (ADHD), Memory, Social-Emotional Development, Autism assessments and Motivational assessments. In addition to standardized testing, interviews, and observations, rating scales will be collected from those who work closely with your student. Recommendations and/or accommodations (if warranted) will be provided to students, as well as helpful strategies to apply to their learning and preparation for their goals beyond high school. Depending on evaluation results, recommendations for a Section 504 (accommodations for AP, SAT, ACT testing) and IEP are provided.
As with our younger population, IEC uses a similar approach when assessing college or older adult students. The use of standardized assessments, specifically for those who are over (or well over) the age of 18, provide the student with a valuable data to help make important educational decisions.
One major difference for this particular population of students are the standardized assessments used, including self-assessments, interviews and rating scales, focusing primarily on preparation for careers or further studies. Results will guide the student's career choices and help them set goals for the future. Depending on results from the evaluation, recommendations for a Section 504 (accommodations for AP, SAT, ACT testing, and college entrance exams) are provided.
